Residential town garden

Lucie New Garden Design was asked to design a low maintenance garden with a secluded seating area which was also suitable for the clients’ two dogs. The main element of the brief was to remove the grass, as the dogs liked to dig and the lawn was in a poor state. An existing shed was to remain and a path was required from a gate at the end of the garden to the rear of the house. The design comprises of a series of inter linking circles. A curved path leads through the garden to a circular seating area and pergola, the planting is relaxed and informal in pastel shades. The raised curved bed protects the planting from the dogs and lifts the eye, it also creates seclusion for the seating area. A timber pergola was used to create shade, it is planted with scented climbers and screens the neighbouring houses. Different textures were also used in the hard landscaping to create interest, the backbone of the planting provides interest throughout the year and the palette is of pinks and blues.
